
The photo posted by Lewis Hamilton in late January, immaculately tailored standing in front of a Ferrari F40 and Enzo’s old house at Fiorano, is sure to become one of the iconic shots of both the seven-time Formula One World Champion, and of the Ferrari brand itself. As a high-point on which to start the Near Year, it’s a real statement of intent, and Hamilton will probably already have been worth what Ferrari is paying him many times over in merchandising opportunities.
2025 is set to be a big year at Maranello. Possibly one of the biggest in quite some time for Ferrari. We will see the launch of the latest Ferrari hypercar, the scheduled debut of the first ever fully electric Ferrari, and there are several significant Ferrari anniversaries. And yes, is the year that one of, if not the greatest ever F1 driver will make his debut at Scuderia Ferrari.
Lewis Hamilton Joins Ferrari Formula 1 Team

Supercars aside, the most successful F1 driver in history donning the red race suit has to be the highlight of Ferrari’s 2025. While it’s far too early to tell whether Ferrari will give Hamilton a car to do his talent justice, the Scuderia did have a notable edge over the struggling Mercedes in 2024, with Leclerc and Sainz taking five victories to Hamilton and Russell’s two.
Interestingly, Mercedes’ own 2024 high point seemed to come in a lull for Ferrari, but that’s not to say lack of competition was what allowed Hamilton to break his 56-race winless streak at July’s British Grand Prix – one of the most exciting, and emotional, F1 races we can remember in quite some time. In a complex, tricky race, Hamilton shone, and he added to that win a few races later at Spa, albeit partly thanks to Russell’s disqualification.
So could a strong Ferrari, and a former World Champion who still shows flashes of greatness take more victories in 2025? There’s a good chance, though Hamilton will have to fight for honours with the still hugely talented Charles Leclerc – and stop the dominant, if clearly fallible Max Verstappen from taking his fifth straight title for Red Bull Racing. It’s sure to be a season worth watching.
Ferrari F80 Hypercar

Give or take a few years, Ferrari launches a new flagship supercar once a decade. Unveiled in 2024, 2025 will see the arrival of the F80, the Ferrari hypercar that succeeds LaFerrari (2013), Enzo (2002), F50 (1995), F40 (1987), and 288 GTO (1984 – well, every rule has its exception). With each new generation Ferrari takes a new step onwards in technological progress, but in one respect, the F80 arguably moves backwards.
That’s because it now uses a V6 engine, rather than the V12 we’ve been used to since the F50. Objectively, it’s difficult to call it a downgrade, given the V6 is directly derived from the brand’s Le Mans-winning 499P, revs to 9200rpm, and develops 888bhp before you even consider the electric motors it’s paired with. Those lift total output to 1184bhp, a 234bhp increase on LaFerrari.
Aesthetically the F80 has an almost brutalist look, less artistic than its predecessor and perhaps closer to the Enzo in its heavy motorsport inspiration. Among its technological features are all-wheel drive (a first in a top-line Ferrari), kinetic and hybrid energy recovery systems derived from F1, electrically-assisted turbochargers, and aero that contributes to more than 1000kg of downforce at 155mph – on the way to a top speed of more than 217mph. The price? Approximately £3.1 million.

Details remain scarce about Ferrari’s unknown leap into a fully electric model. It’s been familiar with hybrids since LaFerrari arrived in 2013, and cars like the 296 GTB and the SF90 both use hybrid technology to enhance their performance. But no engine at all? That’s new to the brand, and presents a philosophical dilemma as much as a technical challenge.
The technical aspect we have no doubt Ferrari will perfect. Its recent run of models has been astonishingly talented, with even the Purosangue testing the temptation of enthusiasts, like the serpent dangling the forbidden fruit before Adam and Eve.
The Purosangue though at least had a V12 to power it, and the electric model won’t have this emotional connection with Ferraris of old. Given rumours suggest it’s also likely to take the form of a pseudo-SUV – prototypes have been spotted rolling around under what look like altered and lowered Maserati Levante bodies – that may be a step too far for some. We do know it’ll incorporate a sound generator though, as those prototypes are far from silent.
Milestone Anniversaries in 2025

Ferrari’s back-catalogue includes well over a hundred cars so rarely a year goes by without some significant model reaching a new milestone, but some of Ferrari’s 2025 anniversary models are more notable than many.
The Ferrari 360 Spider and 550 Barchetta are mildly interesting, each reaching their quarter-century this year, but cast your mind back 30 years and the debut of the F50 was perhaps the biggest news. It was the car Ferrari laid claim to being an F1 car for the road, and had the technical details to back it up – not least its F1-derived V12 as a stressed member of the chassis – but it’s today considered one of the marque’s great driver’s cars too.

1975 and 1985, 50 and 40 years ago, both saw big launches too. The earlier decade marked the debut of the 308 GTB, only the company’s second mid-engined V8 model following the 308 GT4 launched two years prior, but as a two-seater, it’s the first car in the lineage that essentially stopped with the F8, when the 296 GTB moved to V6 power. Ten years later, the 308 GTB was replaced by the 328 GTB, swapping a 3-litre V8 for a 3.2-litre – sharing its engine with the Mondial 3.2, also launched in 1985.

For the final big Ferrari anniversary in 2025 we go back a full 75 years, as in 1950, Ferrari launched the 195 Inter, an elegant two-seater coupe powered by a 2.3-litre, 60-degree V12. Unlike the 308 GTB, this lineage does continue today, in an almost direct line from 195 Inter to the latest 12Cilindri.
