Windrush Car Storage offers secure winter storage

Car servicing while in storage is easy to overlook. A car can sit untouched for months, yet its annual service and MOT still fall due. At Windrush, we take care of the arrangements: booking the right specialist, organising transport, overseeing the work and returning the car to its bay ready to drive.

It is one of the services our clients use most, whether they own a modern supercar, a cherished classic or a whole collection. For them, it is simply one less thing to think about.

Who services your car while it is in storage?

A car being exercised in car storage

Windrush does not carry out mechanical work itself. Instead, each car goes to the specialist best suited to it. Over more than 20 years, we have built a trusted network of main dealers, marque specialists and independent workshops, so whether it is a routine service on a modern Porsche or specialist attention for a rare classic, we know who to turn to.

We always respect the owner’s preferences and the car’s existing service history. If you already have a specialist you trust, we are happy to work with them. We have written more about choosing between a main dealer and an independent specialist.

How does servicing work while a car is in storage?

Managing paperwork for importing a car into the UK

The owner makes one decision, and we handle the rest.

  1. We note when the service and MOT are due and get in touch.
  2. Together we agree on the work and the specialist.
  3. We book it and arrange transport there and back.
  4. We liaise with the specialist and pass on anything needing your approval.
  5. The car returns to its bay, and the paperwork comes to you for the service history.

There is a difference between storing a car and looking after it. Secure storage protects a car while it is not being driven; car management makes sure its maintenance and readiness are not overlooked. For our clients, that means fewer arrangements to make and the reassurance that the car is properly cared for, even when they are not using it.

How does Windrush look after a car between services?

car checks for professional car storage

Arranging servicing is one part of how we look after every car in our care. Throughout storage, each car follows our programme of condition checks and preventative care. We are proactive about keeping cars healthy between services. This is routine care rather than mechanical work, and includes:

  • a condition appraisal on arrival
  • exercising cars periodically, so engines, brakes and transmissions are not left idle for long periods
  • battery conditioning while stored
  • tyre pressures adjusted for storage, then returned to road pressure before the car leaves
  • fluid levels, MOT and road tax checked before every drive
  • a clean inside and out

If we notice anything that needs attention, we let you know and can add it to the next specialist visit.

Do stored cars still need servicing?

checking oil levels

Yes. Most manufacturers set service intervals by time as well as mileage, because oil, brake fluid and rubber seals age whether or not the car moves. Keeping to the schedule also protects any warranty and maintains a complete service history, which helps preserve a car’s future value. That makes regular servicing worthwhile even for a rarely used car.

Can Windrush arrange MOTs and repairs too?

Vehicle detailing preservation – paintwork protection

Yes. MOTs are arranged in the same way, often alongside the service. Many classics over 40 years old are exempt from the annual test, though owners often choose a voluntary one for peace of mind.

We can also coordinate repairs and other work through our specialists, from fitting new parts to restoration. See install, repair and restore for more.

No chasing appointments, arranging transport or finding the right specialist: just the reassurance that everything is in hand, alongside the regular care every car receives in storage.
